Should I Major In Interior Design First, Then Go To Grad School For Architecture?

by admin on July 5, 2009

So, I want to become an architect. I was wondering if it would be reasonable to get my B.S. in Interior Design at SFSU first, and then go to graduate school at UCB for a degree in Architecture.
Does this sound reasonable at all? I would love to get some input, especially from experienced architects or interior designers. Thanks!

You will get most of your training at work and not in school. If you want to be an interior designer, than go to school for interior design. Getting both degrees will not give you much of an edge over other competitors who has actual work experience. At the end of the day you either burned time and resources on one degree or the other.

In theory it sounds reasonable, but I would check two things…can you just get an undergrad in architecture? Are there specific courses you need to be accepted into the Arch. program and would you/could you complete those in the Design program…I am thinking of math and physics in particular…
